The Object of The Boys' Brigadelocation blue boxed logo

The BB Object, for a long time, was one of the few statements of organisational purpose in the BB. It defines the reason for the existence of The Boys’ Brigade and it was this very binding ideology that saw the BB through its many years of growth and success. We believe that the Object is as relevant today as it was when we started and a standard by which we encourage all Boys to achieve.

The text of this object has remained the same since the beginning, with the addition of the word obedience in 1893.

The advancement of Christ's kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.

The BB exists to assist the Church in its mission to reach out to all non-believers. It is one of the ministries the Church can use to reach out to young people with the Gospel of eternal life.

Engaging a Generation

For over 130 years, The Boys' Brigade has reached out to millions of children & young people. Today we are passionate about partnering with churches to build bridges into local communities and engage a generation of children & young people with a message of hope rooted in Jesus.

Matthew 28: 19 - 20 (Jesus commanded...)
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

1 Corinthians 12: 12 - 20 (Paul wrote...)
"Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason cease to be part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
