The Discover Programme

Discover is for those aged between 11 and 15 years old. (Company Section)

The Discover programme is about more than gaining badges provide a fun, balanced, and challenging programme recognise young people for their effort and achievement build trusting relationships with young people designed to make a positive contribution to a young person's life a creative and relevant way. a bridge into your local community that can often be difficult for churches to access.

The Discover programme is divided into three programme zones (each sub-divided into various topics) and a balanced programme draws content from each. Zones are the basic structure of the Discover programme and help group topics together, as well as provide variety in the programme.


The Main Programme zones are:

Community
This zone gives opportunity to learn about and make a difference to the world around us.

Recreation
This zone gives opportunity to be adventurous and develop confidence through an active and healthy lifestyle.

Skills
This zone gives opportunity to learn new skills and display creativity.

There are two further zones entitled Faith and Extras. These complement the three programme zones and provide additional materials for devotions and lots more.

To gain a complete level of badges each year, a boy would have to get 24 points by completing topics within the programme zones. To gain 1 point the young person has to take part in one hour's activity on a chosen topic.


 The Main Programme Badges:

There are three badges to gain in the Discover Programme, with a number of topics from each of the activity groups required for each badge:

CS-Community-1-Bdg

Community Badge:
 7 points required each level. There are 4 levels available.

 

CS-Recreation-1-Bdg

Recreation Badge:
10 points required each level. There are 4 levels available.

 

CS-Skills-1-Bdg

Skills Badge:
7 points required each level. There are 4 levels available.

  


The badges are metal with a pin-on fastening. The badges are placed on the armband as seen below. When boys move to the Senior Section, they will wear the highest Activity badge gained during their time in Anchors, Juniors & Company Section.

Other Programme Awards:

As well as the Community, Recreation and Skills Badges there are other awards available. These all require points to be accumulated from the programme but the higher awards require additional elements which will add to the programme offered.

Compass-Bdg
Compass Award:
Awarded during the first year in the section.
To gain the award a young person has to: Gain 6 points from the Discover Programme: 2 from each of the three programme zones.

Awarded from the second year in the section.
