The Major Awards

Requirements for each of the Major Awards that are available from the Brigade.


The Discovery Badge

The Discovery Badge is awarded during Year 2 of the Discover Programme (school year 8).

To gain the Award a young person has to:

Discovery Bdg

  • Complete at least 30 points from he Discover programme having gained the Community, Recreation and Skills badges in the last 12 month.

  • Have good attendance for one session.

  • Take an active role in a Company or Battalion event or a Church service.

  • Participate in a residential experience (camp, holiday, sleepover midnight hike or event).

 The President's Badge

The President’s Badge is the second, highest award in the Boys’ Brigade, and represents the culmination of many years work in the Company Section Award Scheme. It is also required for entrance to the Queen’s Badge.

Normally awarded during year 4 in the Discover Programme (school year 10), this badge can still be gained through the Challenge Plus programme.

To gain the Award a young person has to: 

Presidents-Bdg

  • Complete a Christian faith development course. - Have good attendance for one session.

  • Participate in a non-residential teamwork skills experience run by Battalion, District or Region.

  • Take part in an activity based residential event within the BB.

  • Complete 10 hours of practical service for the Brigade or church.

  • Be recommended by the Company Captain.

and Either Route A - 

  • Complete at least 30 points from the Discover programme, having gained three badges in the last 12 months OR complete at least 30 points from the Challenge Plus Programme having gained a Gold award in the last 12 months.

  • Take part in an activity based residential event within the BB.

  • Complete 10 hours of practical service for the Brigade or church.

Or - Route B

  • Gain the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The Queen's Badge

Awarded from year 6 (school year 12), The Queen's Badge, is the highest award that a young person can gain as a member of The Boys' Brigade. It aims to challenge young people, provide new opportunities and expand their horizons. Queen's Badge activities will normally be spread over two or more sessions, and this will be reflected in the Candidate's agreed Programme of Activity.

To gain the Award a young person has to:

Queens-Bdg

  • Hold the President's Badge.

  • Attend a Queen's Badge Candidate's Conference.

  • Participate in Skills-based training.

  • Take responsibility within the BB or Church (a minimum of 30 hours activity is required).

  • Provide voluntary service or support to others outside the BB or Church (a minimum of 30 hours activity is required).

  • Developing interest (Skills, Physical, Expedition) for a minimum of 6 months.

  • Participate in a Completion Residential Corse.

    • Complete record of activity.
