Who is it for?
Juniors is for boys from school year 4 to school year 6 (ages 8 to 11). We meet at WWSBC on Friday evenings from 6:30pm to 7:45pm (during school term time).
Why Juniors?
Boys develop rapidly between the ages of 8 and 11, there are big changes in a child's mental, emotional, social and physical development. However, all children are different and have a variety of needs. The relationships we form with them at this age can be important in assisting them to achieve a sound sense of personal and group identity.
What do they do?
Juniors is all about having fun, making friends, enjoying lots of different activities and trying out new things. Through a combination of the Brigade Award Programme, our own Programme and various Battalion events, Juniors have very little time to get bored!
The Award programme is designed to encourage boys to try different things along side things that they already enjoy doing; aspects that we cover are spiritual, social, physical and adventure.
The 5 Programme zones are as follows;
- BODY – fit for fun (games and physical activities)
- MIND – think and do (puzzles, quizzes, thinking games, treasure hunts and hobbies)
- SPIRIT – God and me (devotions, prayers, worship and bible teaching)
- COMMUNITY – me and my world (conservation, local community and church)
- CREATIVITY – make and do (crafts, cooking, drama and music)
More info on the Juniors Badgework
Through Juniors boys will learn more about themselves, get to know other people and learn to work together. They will also explore their community and develop personally.
Why a Uniform?
Like all sections of the Company the Juniors have a special uniform that they wear. This uniform gives us an identity and enhances a sense of belonging. We take pride in our uniform and boys show off the badges they have worked so hard to earn. However nobody is ever excluded because they do not have the right clothes!
How does it work?
A typical Friday evening will consist of an opening parade where boys line up in teams, we will then have a welcome, inspect uniforms and have a short presentation or talk. Then we move into games followed by refreshments and badge activities. To finish we all come back together for a final game and then round off the evening with our closing parade where we give out any letters/notices and say goodbye until next week.
How do I join?
Well, it couldn't be easier, just turn up! - come and have a look, if you like what you see then stay and join in the fun. Parents and Carers are more than welcome to stay and observe if they wish. We don’t expect our new members to commit to subscriptions and uniform straight away. Once you have decide to join us we keep a selection of new and second hand items in stock and would encourage you to speak to your Section Leader about this as soon as you are happy to.
We have a great bunch of boys in Juniors who love coming along every week
