Summer Camp
Many BB Companies just like ours go away for a week’s holiday under canvas, and this has been a tradition for over 60 years here at the 14th Croydon. Camp, often the highlight of the session for many of our members, is a time for both campers and staff to relax and have fun, building good relationships through sharing mealtimes and activities together.
Camp is open to boys & girls who are regular members at WWSBC youth organisations (not just BB), who are in school year 7 and upward. (aged 11 to 17).
Our camp is operated mainly by BB Officers, assisted by other adults associated with our Church and includes female staff, to help supervise any girls on camp. The young people are be divided into Tents (separate boys and girls tents), with a senior boy/girl nominally in charge of each tent, sharing 4 or five to a tent.
Life on Camp includes four meals a day, shared at set meals times in a large marquee. There will also be lots of fun activities every day whilst at camp; usually on site activities in the mornings, and off-site in the afternoons (typical off-site activities include things like rock climbing, body-boarding, power boat rides, etc). Each day starts with getting washed and dressed, followed by inspection of tents and personal equipment (this is not too strict, but just enough to ensure that the young people and their personal belongings and their tent for the week are kept clean and tidy.
Summer Camp is an opportunity for young people to learn to share together, have fun together, and grow together. It’s a time away from the family home, where they can learn to be independent, and to take responsibility for themselves. Camp has a very relaxed, friendly, family atmosphere with staff members quite often bringing their young children.
For those young people who may not be too sure about going to camp, or may worry about the food, or having to join activities they don’t like, then our response is “don’t worry” – nobody is made to do anything they don’t want to, although we do expect their co-operation with things like personal hygiene, sharing the washing-up, and generally helping one another as appropriate.
Camp runs for 8 days, normally during August (Saturday to Saturday) and is packed full of non-stop, fun filled activities!
We guarantee a great experience at camp for all who join us, so do please come ask if you have any questions BB camp – we’d love to have you join us!
